Grand Award at the Environmental Awards 2018 for Sunlight Recycling in the category “Circular Economy"

Sunlight Group – member of Olympia Group – was awarded the Grand Award in the category “Circular Economy – Industrial Symbiosis” for its subsidiary company Sunlight Recycling, which is the recycling unit of lead-based batteries operating in Komotini, Greece.

The recycling unit covers more than 50% of the total needs of Sunlight for utilization of lead in the production of new batteries, thus strengthening its production capacity as well as its competitiveness. At the same time, it decisively contributes to the reduction of the imported lead quantities, therefore it significantly reduces currency outflows by € 40 million on annual basis, whereas it has created 80 employment positions in a border area that is also de-industrialized and has a high unemployment rate.

The Grand Award ascertains once again the commitment on behalf of Sunlight towards the circular economy model as a means to create competitive advantages, achieve business growth and generate significant savings in terms of natural resources.
